Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Davit Songulashvili, met with Majnun Mammadov, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and his delegation to discuss expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector and deepening trade and economic ties.
Songulashvili highlighted that the participation of Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum—along with Minister Mammadov’s current visit—reflects the strength of the two countries’ high-level political relations.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, Songulashvili presented Georgia’s national programmes aimed at supporting agricultural development and emphasized the importance of the memorandum signed between Georgia and Azerbaijan to facilitate trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs. He also underscored the export potential of Georgian products.
The discussion further covered cooperation in food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary measures, and the value of exchanging knowledge through scientific research and sector-focused educational initiatives.
Both sides agreed on the need to establish joint working groups to enhance the effectiveness of agricultural collaboration.
“We have agreed to form a joint working group between our ministries. We believe this will foster closer cooperation, particularly in the agricultural and food sectors. Expanding trade in agriculture was a key point of our discussions with the Minister,” stated Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov.
