In an interview with GPB First Channel, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze highlighted one of the country’s key foreign policy priorities: renewing and strengthening strategic cooperation with the United States. Reflecting on the recent meeting between Georgia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, and U.S. Ambassador Robin Dunnigan, the Prime Minister described it as a significant step in this direction.
While acknowledging that details of closed-door meetings are typically confidential, Kobakhidze emphasized that both sides expressed a strong desire to reset relations meaningfully and qualitatively. "We have already made several public declarations about our intention to completely reboot our relations, starting strategic collaboration from scratch, guided by a clear roadmap with specific objectives," he said.
The Prime Minister outlined the importance of identifying concrete goals that align with the priorities of both nations. "We want to work together to restore Georgia's strategic cooperation with the United States, based on shared values," he continued, pointing out the growing alignment between the two countries on various issues, particularly with the new U.S. administration.
Kobakhidze stressed that while mutual agreement is crucial, it is the actions of both countries that will determine the success of this renewed partnership. "We are fully prepared," he declared.
The Prime Minister also noted that the meeting with the U.S. Ambassador was initiated by the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs and took place shortly afterward. In his concluding remarks, Kobakhidze underscored the need for concrete steps in Georgian-American relations and suggested that the real challenge lies in overcoming internal political obstacles within the U.S. to fully realize this potential.
