“Georgia occupies a unique and strategic position. Historically, we have served as a vital link between Europe and Asia, playing an important transit role. One of our primary objectives is to restore this traditional function of our country as fully as possible, and the construction of this highway is crucial to achieving that,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during the inauguration of a new eight-kilometre section of the Samtredia–Grigoleti highway.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the new stretch, which connects Lanchkhuti and Lesa. “I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone on the Barbaroba holiday. It is especially meaningful that, on this day of celebration, we are unveiling a vital segment of the highway. This four-lane section has been built to the highest modern standards and includes three new bridges and two transport nodes. This was a challenging project, and I commend the Ministry for completing it with exceptional quality and on schedule.”
This new section is expected to bring tangible benefits to local communities and travelers alike. For residents of Lanchkhuti and surrounding villages, it will ease traffic, reduce noise, improve comfort, and enhance safety. For travelers, the highway will shorten journey times and offer greater convenience, strengthening Georgia’s role as a transit corridor.
Earlier this year, the most critical part of the Rikoti bypass was also completed. The current eight-kilometre stretch represents part of the overall 12-kilometre Samtredia–Grigoleti route, with work continuing actively to finish the remaining section soon.
“Georgia’s strategic location has always made us a pivotal connector between Europe and Asia,” Kobakhidze emphasized. “Restoring and strengthening this traditional role is a key national goal, and the construction of this highway is a major step toward realizing that vision.”
