Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced that Georgia will file a complaint with the UK regulatory commission against the BBC and pursue all available legal avenues. He said the State Security Service has already exposed the falsehood at the centre of the report.
According to Papuashvili, Georgia was targeted by a “hybrid operation” involving foreign actors and amplified by certain European politicians. He stressed that all questions have been answered and that international institutions seeking clarification can obtain full information from the State Security Service.
Papuashvili argued that the BBC’s report spread harmful disinformation—particularly the claim that a First World War–era chemical weapon was used, which he said was never purchased or present in Georgia. He added that the origin of the false narrative must now be uncovered.
He concluded that Georgia will respond firmly: “If necessary, through the courts or other means, we will pursue this to the end to expose those who spread lies against Georgia.”
