“Today marks 34 years since one of the most significant events in Georgia’s recent history. On March 31, 1991, the Georgian people overwhelmingly supported restoring state independence through a referendum, including in the occupied territories,” stated Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream party.
For Mdinaradze, the anniversary serves as a reminder that independence, won through the struggles of generations, must be cherished, protected, and, above all, strengthened.
“This day should remind everyone that independence, achieved through the struggle of generations, needs to be cherished, protected, cared for, and, most importantly, strengthened,” he said.
Mdinaradze went on to emphasize Georgia’s achievements in sovereignty: “We can openly and proudly declare that Georgia has attained a level of independence that it has never had before. We are proud that we have firmly rejected externally imposed instructions and the idea of administering our nation on someone else’s terms. This is the only way to safeguard our country, culture, identity, demography, homeland, language, and religion.”
He also reassured the people of Georgia: “We pledge to every person in our country, regardless of party affiliation, that no foreign pressure, baseless criticism, or punitive measures will force us to abandon safeguarding and enhancing Georgia’s sovereignty.”
