The French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his support for Georgia's European aspirations while condemning recent developments in the country, which he characterized as the "repression of young people" and a "betrayal of the European path." These remarks came amid ongoing protests in response to the Georgian government's decision to delay European Union accession talks until 2028.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw, Macron also voiced concern over the "disturbing statements" made by Georgian officials in light of these developments.
Furthermore, Macron highlighted Russia's hybrid attacks on electoral processes across Europe, citing Georgia, Moldova, and Romania as examples, and stated that "Georgia has become the victim of a clear attack of manipulation."
The French President also criticized the situation in Georgia following the October 26 general elections, asserting that the government's actions represented a "betrayal of the European path" that occurred "immediately after the elections" and was in direct contradiction to the promises made to voters during the pre-election campaign.
