In cooperation with the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the company "Gepra" and calligrapher Davit Maisuradze, the monuments preserved in the National Archives were selected to make the fonts.

Asomtavruli [majuscule] will be based on the distinctive IX century manuscript called "Anbandidi Gospel", Nuskhuri - kontakion "The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom" dated to the 15th century, and the modern Georgian script [Mkhedruli] - will be created according to the 17th century monument "The Story of Jason and Medea". The fonts will be available to any interested person completely free of charge.

“We are pleased to add three distinctive fonts to Gepra's special project - the manuscript font gallery, which was founded in 2019, and thus further contribute to the development of the Georgian script and the popularization of Georgian culture. The UNESCO delegation was fascinated by the fact that all three types of Georgian script are still alive today, still used in theological schools and worship services, and all three are taught at school,” - said Rusudan Ustiashvili, Gepra's special projects manager. 

According to Ketevan Asatiani, Head of the Scientific Department of the National Archives of Georgia, the archive, along with other government agencies, was actively involved in the preparation of the nomination for "The living culture of the three types of the Georgian alphabet”.

According to calligrapher Davit Maisuradze, the fonts - "Anbandidi", "Gragnili" and "Medea" - are based on the ancient manuscripts made in beautiful calligraphy. 

“The living culture of the three types of the Georgian alphabet” was included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO on November 30, 2016. On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of this fact, the society will get acquainted with the new fonts - "Anbandidi", "Gragnili" and "Medea".

The three fonts of the alphabet will be presented at the National Archives Exhibition Pavilion on November 30.
