
Import of fresh or chilled fish to Georgia is at a record level. According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), 800 tons (6,531 million USD) of products were imported in 8 months this year, which is the highest rate in the last 14 years (The rate of fish imports is available on the GEOSTAT external trade portal since 2009).
For comparison, in January-August 2009, Georgia purchased only 0.18 tons (5.61 thousand US dollars) of fish, and in the same reporting period of 2010 - 0.87 tons (9.97 thousand US dollars). During the following years, the import volume of the product was increasing, however, the indicators of certain years were slightly behind the previous year in terms of quantitative volume. For example, if 629.2 tons (3,439 million USD) of fish were imported in 8 months of 2021, as of January-August 2022, the imported fish amounted to 567.4 tons (4,491 million USD).
In general, the indicator of 2023, both in monetary and quantitative part, exceeded all times.

Norway - 273.7 tons (3,620 million USD);
New Zealand - 79.7 tons (236.2 thousand USD);
Spain - 9.81 tons (21.4 thousand USD);
The Netherlands - 2.58 tons (39.53 thousand USD);
France - 0.97 tons (42.7 thousand USD);
Sri Lanka - 0.16 tons (1.89 thousand USD);
Greece - 0.14 tons (0.98 thousand USD).
