Traffic on the Baku — Tbilisi — Kars line has resumed following the completion of a large-scale reconstruction of the Georgian section of the railway. On May 20, 2024, the first train, consisting of 20 containers, departed from the Absheron Logistics Center in Baku towards Georgia.
This event marks an important step in strengthening transport links between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
The reconstruction of the 183 km section from Akhalkalaki to Tbilisi was completed in early May 2024.
This stage included the construction of a large logistics complex covering 110 hectares near the Georgian city of Akhalkalaki, which is only 30 km from the Turkish border.
The new logistics complex promises to become an important hub for the redistribution of cargo flows, enhancing efficiency and reducing delivery times.
Azerbaijan and Georgia plan to establish a joint venture to manage and improve the efficiency of this railway.
The joint efforts of the two countries are aimed at further increasing cargo transportation volumes, allowing maximum utilization of the upgraded infrastructure.
