
The third final round of negotiations on the free trade agreement between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates began in Tbilisi between the government delegations of the two countries. The negotiations are led by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze from the Georgian side.
"The implementation of the free trade agreement will open an additional path for Georgian producers to the 10 million high purchasing power market of the United Arab Emirates. The agreement will cover trade in goods, rules of origin and procedures of origin, customs administration and trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade protection measures, investment, trade in services, digital trade and many other issues," - the Deputy Minister said.
The negotiations will end on March 17, and an estimated date will be determined when, as a result of the completion of domestic procedures, the text of the agreement will be ready for official signature.
In order to promote economic, trade and investment relations, back in December 2020, the Ministers of Economy of the two countries made a decision to start negotiations on the free trade agreement, and on May 9, 2022, the Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Partnership between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates was signed. The first round of negotiations on the agreement was held in Tbilisi in September 2022, while the second - in Dubai in December 2022.
