The President of Georgia, as part of her official visit to Romania, met with the executive director of the sea port, Florin Vişan, at the Port of Constanța.
According to the press service of the presidential administration, during the meeting the parties talked about the development of economic cooperation between Romania and Georgia and the establishment of sea-ferry shipping lines. Currently, Georgia only has direct, regular ferry services with Ukraine and Bulgaria, however, in the presence of a blue border with the European Union, it is very important to start ferry services to Romania as well.
As the Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, Ivane Abashidze, said, the President's visit to the Port of Constanța is important, as ensuring maritime shipping and connections between Georgia and Romania is one of the main priorities in the relations between our countries.
"During her visit, the President of Georgia emphasized the necessity of tangible connections between Georgia and Romania in the maritime sphere; we plan to take very concrete steps very soon in this direction, and at the same time to facilitate this process in terms of ferry crossings between Batumi, Poti and Constanța. This will bring more exports to Georgia, as the Black Sea between us and Romania is the blue border that unites us with the European Union, and it is the only direct tangible connection we have with the EU member states. Hence, our ferry service, which we hope to start in the near future, will be a very important determinant of the economic growth of Georgia and, in general, South Caucasus and Central Asia as a whole," - Ivane Abashidze said.
