
Based on the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia, Türkiye ($2 billion), Russia ($1.71 billion) and China ($1.40 billion) were the top trading partners of Georgia in its total external trade turnover in January-September 2022.
Georgia's top partners by exports in January-September 2022 were China ($574.8 million), Azerbaijan ($488.6 million) and Russia ($473.2 million), while the top markets by imports were Türkiye ($1.68 billion), Russia ($1.24 billion) and China ($829.3 million).
The top export items were the following:
- Copper ores and concentrates - $753.3 million (18.4% of total exports)
- Motor cars - $590.5 million (14.4%)
- Ferro-alloys - $431.6 million (10.5%)
- The three top import commodities include:
- Motor cars - $1.08 billion (11.4% of total imports)
- Petroleum and petroleum oils - $1.02 billion (10.7%)
- Copper ores and concentrates - $568.1 million (6%)
Totally, in the first nine months of 2022, Georgian external trade turnover equaled $13.61 billion, posting an increase of 35.3% year-on-year.
The value of exports rose by 37.4% and equaled $4.09 billion in the reported period, while imports also grew by 34.4%, amounting to $9.51 billion.
Trade deficit, a measure of the negative balance of trade in which imports exceed exports, reached $5.41 billion, and the share of trade turnover hit 39.8%.
