Harvesting of persimmons in Georgia has already ended. Part of the crop is being kept in special refrigerators in anticipation of the price increase for the New Year, while another portion is exported and sold on the local market. Farmers note that compared to last season, the harvest was less than expected. While speaking to EastFruit, they also mentioned a late harvest this season, with the massive harvest beginning in the first week of November - about a week later than usual.
This year the persimmon prices are relatively low - 1 kilogram of persimmon costs GEL 0.80-1.10, which is GEL 0.10-0.20 lower than the last year’s price.
Exports reached record highs since the start of last season, but the 2022 season didn't get off to the best start – Georgia exported only 2,081 tonnes of persimmons in October, compared to 5,800 tonnes exported in the same period in 2021.
Russia (66%), Armenia (18%) and Ukraine (15%) remain the main trading partners of Georgian persimmons in November.
