Spyros Capralos, the President of the European Olympic Committees, presented the final medals in the cross-country skiing mixed relay discipline, marking the conclusion of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) held in Georgia's winter resort of Bakuriani.
During the ceremony, Capralos awarded medals in both the boys' and girls' categories and presented the prestigious Nodar Kumaritashvili Award to Italy’s Daniel Pedranzini and Slovakia's Michaela Strakova, recognizing them as the best male and female athletes of the Festival. This award commemorates the memory of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who tragically passed away at the age of 21 during a final practice session at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
The Georgian Olympic team concluded the Festival with one medal, as 16-year-old figure skater Inga Gurgenidze made history by securing the country's first-ever gold in the discipline.
Italy emerged as the leader in the medal standings, securing 16 medals—seven gold, six silver, and three bronze—while France finished in second place with 19 medals, and Switzerland claimed third with 11.
The Festival featured up to 1,000 athletes from 45 countries, competing in eight winter sports across various venues, including Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, and the Black Sea city of Batumi.
At the closing ceremony, the event flag was formally handed over to Romania, the host country for the next edition of the Festival, set to be held in Brașov in 2027.
