EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński announced that the European Commission will release a visa suspension report in December, which will include an assessment of Georgia’s compliance with visa-free travel requirements.
“In December, next month, the European Commission will issue a visa suspension report, including for Georgia. This report will be shared with member states, and the member states will discuss and make a decision, which is really something that I don’t want to speculate about,” Herczyński stated.
Responding to questions about possible changes to the EU’s visa liberalisation mechanism, the Ambassador said he preferred not to speculate on potential outcomes. “This is a question that I have been receiving quite often, and I try not to answer this question because I simply don’t want to speculate,” he noted.
Herczyński explained that a new review mechanism now applies to all countries enjoying visa-free travel to the EU. He also revealed that the European Commission had recently sought clarifications from Georgian authorities regarding the implementation of recommendations from the previous visa liberalisation report.
“The European Commission has received an answer. As I understand, this answer is not satisfactory, and based on the response received from the Georgian authorities, a new visa suspension mechanism report will be issued in December. It will be shared with member states, and the decision will be taken by the member states,” the EU Ambassador stated.
