As part of the EU-funded Horizon Europe training initiative Eco2Wine, the National Wine Agency of Georgia recently hosted Capucine Dentraygues, a doctoral researcher from the University of Geisenheim.
Launched in 2023 with the participation of the National Wine Agency, Eco2Wine is designed to foster global innovation and enhance communication in the field of winemaking.
During her visit to Georgia, Dentraygues conducted a field study focused on Georgian wine consumers' perceptions of natural, traditional, and microbiologically enhanced winemaking methods. The research also explored how consumers evaluate key attributes such as authenticity, sustainability, and health benefits when selecting wines. The findings are currently being analyzed and will be published in the coming months.
The collaboration under Eco2Wine aims to inform future strategies in the wine sector using scientific evidence and cross-national insight.
Coordinated by the University of Milan, the Eco2Wine project includes partners from Georgia, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Slovenia, and South Africa. Participating institutions include the Georgian Technical University, University of Milan, University of Burgundy, University of Geisenheim, University of Perugia, University of Ljubljana, University of Cadiz, University of Stellenbosch, and the Spanish National Research Council. Industry representatives from each country are also involved.
The project has a budget of up to €2.4 million and will be implemented over a four-year period.
