The European Commission has included the Georgia-Romania Black Sea Submarine Cable Project in its list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI), signaling strategic, legal, and financial support, Georgia’s Ministry of Economy announced. The 1,155-kilometer digital and high-voltage underwater transmission link, with a 1,300 MW capacity, aims to enhance energy security, support renewable energy, and expand regional transit capacity.
Inclusion on the PMI list positions the project under EU energy legislation, grants access to EU funding, and boosts its investment appeal. Feasibility studies by the European Commission and Italian firm CESI have confirmed its technical and economic viability, and it is also listed in the 2026–2036 Ten-Year Network Development Plan of ENTSO-E.
