
In the first quarter of 2025, Georgia experienced a slight decline in domestic tourism, according to new data released on Georgian resident travel behavior.
The monthly average number of Georgian residents aged 15 and older who traveled within the country stood at 1,262.4 thousand, making a monthly average of 1,506.8 thousand visits. These figures represent a 1.2% drop in visitor numbers and a 3.1% decline in total visits compared to the same period in 2024.
A sharper drop was observed in tourist visits, which are defined as trips involving an overnight stay. The monthly average number of tourist visits fell to 623.6 thousand, marking a 9.4% year-on-year decrease.
Demographically, the largest group of visitors (36.0%) were between the ages of 31 and 50, and women made up 55.0% of the total visitor population.
Tbilisi residents accounted for the highest share of domestic travelers at 35.6%, followed by residents from:

Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 15.6%

Adjara A/R and Kvemo Kartli – 9.1% each
The primary reason for travel was to visit friends or relatives, making up 53.6% of all visits.
In terms of destinations, the majority of domestic trips were concentrated in:

Tbilisi – with a monthly average of 378.2 thousand visits

Imereti region – averaging 328.4 thousand visits per month
Spending also declined. The monthly average expenditure during visits totaled 242.4 million GEL, a drop of 8.8% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, average expenditure per visit decreased by 5.9%, falling to 160.8 GEL.
These figures indicate a modest but notable downturn in both the scale and economic impact of domestic tourism in Georgia during the first quarter of 2025.
