The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) published a report on external trade today. The document clarifies that in the first half of 2022, Georgia purchased goods worth of 705 million dollars from Russia, which is 51% more than the volume reported in the previous year.
Consequently, Russia became the second largest import market for Georgia after Turkey. The largest month-on-month increase was reported in June, when Georgia imported goods worth of $151 million from Russia. For comparison, in June 2021, the revenue from the imports amounted to 72 million dollars.
The increase in imports is mainly related to the increased import of oil, as a result of which Russia has become the main source of fuel supply for Georgia.
As for exports, the products worth of 256 million dollars were exported to Russia this year, which is 3% less than last year. According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), Georgia has increased the export of ferroalloys to Russia, but the export of mineral waters and wines has decreased.
