Through the national consultation meetings, Georgia joined the process ongoing in 58 countries, leading the conference "Stockholm +50" scheduled to be held on June 2-3 in Sweden.
The consultation meetings allow a wide circle of society to engage in vital discussions about the climate protection, climate change and climate-sensitive ways to deal with climate change and further pandemic recovery. The results of the national consultation meetings, the recommendations and action plans developed will be discussed during the Stockholm + 50 conference.
"One of the top priorities for the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is to make transparent decisions and involve all stakeholders in the decision-making process, taking into account their views, in order to effectively enforce the right to participate in environmental decision-making process. The views expressed during the consultations are not only essential in the process of preparing the report on behalf of Georgia, but will also help the Ministry and other government agencies to better identify and plan future policies and measures to be taken. Despite the pandemic, Georgia has taken significant steps in recent years to improve the country's environmental governance, achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ambient air quality, protection of water resources and proper management, biodiversity conservation, waste and chemicals management, and in the direction of combating climate change.
In the context of Georgia's application for the EU membership, both our efforts and the involvement of all of you need to be further strengthened in order to achieve tangible and successful results," - Nino Tandilashvili said.
The Stockholm + 50 conference is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first UN Conference on Environment. On this day, environmental protection was first put on the agenda of the UN General Assembly. The Stockholm + 50 participants will summarize the results of five decades of global environmental efforts and discuss the critical steps that need to be taken to achieve a healthy planet and universal well-being.
