
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Irakli Nadareishvili met with the UK’s Export Minister, Malcolm Ian Offord, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, Mark Clayton, as well as the head of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry, Mariam Gabunia, and the head of the Investment Policy and Investment Support Department, Valerian Gvalia.
The parties discussed a wide range of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the direction of trade and investments. It was noted that despite the growing dynamics of foreign trade, the potential in this regard is much greater. When it comes to cooperation in terms of investment, the United Kingdom has been leading the top investing countries in recent years.
According to the Deputy Minister, it is important to take the cooperation between the private sector to a new stage in terms of deepening the trade-economic relations of the two countries. The governments of both countries are creating important platforms for more British companies to be represented in Georgia and vice versa. In this regard, Irakli Nadareishvili emphasized the more frequent holding of business forums and trade missions, during which business circles will be better able to establish and further develop partnership ties.
The parties also talked about cooperation in the field of tourism, which is also characterized by growing dynamics. At the same time, it was noted that the start of direct flights between Georgia and the United Kingdom would further contribute to this trend.
The meeting focused on the situation created in the region and the challenges faced by both the United Kingdom and Georgia. In addition, the guests were interested in the transport-logistics infrastructure of Georgia and its further development perspective. It was mentioned that the so-called "Middle Corridor" has great potential. Another strategic direction was also discussed - the Black Sea energy cable project.
It was also noted that the United Kingdom is an important strategic political and economic partner of Georgia. Emphasis was placed on the existing frameworks of cooperation, such as the Wardrop Strategic Dialogue, in the 8th round of which the parties agreed on the future plans of bilateral relations.
In conclusion, Deputy Minister personally invited Lord Malcolm Offord to the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which will be held on October 26-27. Irakli Nadareishvili expressed hope that the United Kingdom would be represented at the forum at a high level.
