The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, has nominated Davit Vardiashvili as the new General Director of the Georgian Gas Transportation Company (GGTC). Vardiashvili has served as First Deputy State Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti since 2022. His official presentation was attended by Deputy Minister Inga Pkhaladze, according to a statement from the Ministry.
In her remarks, Minister Kvrivishvili emphasized the strategic importance of the GGTC, noting that it plays a vital role in ensuring the reliable operation of Georgia’s main gas pipelines and the uninterrupted, safe supply of natural gas across the country.
She also highlighted the progress of the state gasification program, which the company has been implementing since 2013. Once completed, the program will provide 93% of the population with access to natural gas.
“Thanks to state efforts over the past 12 years, many communities—some of which had never been gasified before—now have access to natural gas,” Kvrivishvili stated.
“This program has supported not only households, but also the development of micro and small businesses, especially in the regions.”
The minister praised Vardiashvili’s extensive leadership experience in the energy sector, particularly in the gas industry, and wished him success in his new role. She also thanked the company’s outgoing director for his service.
Davit Vardiashvili has held key leadership roles in both the Georgian State Electrosystem and the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation. From 2016 to 2017, he also served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and has experience in senior roles within the Emergency Situations Management Service and the Revenue Service.
