Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, emphasized the importance of revitalizing parliamentary relations during a recent meeting with the newly elected Chairman of the Parliament of Tajikistan. Papuashvili highlighted the ongoing efforts to maintain strong ties between the two nations.
“We recently met with the newly elected Chairman of the Parliament of Tajikistan for an introductory discussion. It is vital to ensure that parliamentary relations are continually revitalized,” Papuashvili stated.
He also mentioned the growing interest in Central Asia, particularly in relation to resource access, as underscored by a recent forum held in Uzbekistan. According to Papuashvili, Tajikistan is a key partner for Georgia’s economic goals, and Central Asia is increasingly in the spotlight for both Europe and the United States.
“Tajikistan is a significant partner for achieving our economic objectives. In today’s landscape, Central Asia has captured the attention of both Europe and the United States. The recent forum in Uzbekistan underscores this interest, particularly concerning resource access. The expansion of Georgia’s transit role is intricately linked to these developments. Maintaining parliamentary connections is also essential in this regard,” he added.
Papushvili also noted a meeting with the Chairman of the Indian Parliament, which focused on enhancing bilateral parliamentary relations. He pointed out that India’s advanced technological capabilities and its political priorities, such as seeking new transit routes through the Caucasus, are crucial to Georgia's role in regional connectivity.
“I also engaged with the Chairman of the Indian Parliament. Our conversation centered on enhancing relations between our parliaments. Notably, the Indian Parliament possesses substantial experience in technology, and its technical capabilities are quite advanced,” Papuashvili remarked.
He further emphasized that India’s pursuit of new transit routes through the region aligns with Georgia's strategic position. “In this context, the Armenian-Indian relations focus on leveraging transit functions, and, undoubtedly, Georgia serves as the pivotal link for transit,” Papuashvili concluded.
