
The Ministers of different countries discussed the ways to overcome tuberculosis and AIDS, as well as viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections, at the meeting held in Tel Aviv, within the framework of the European Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The World Health Organization focused on Georgia's success in the process of hepatitis C elimination asking the Georgian Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili to share his experience with his colleagues.
The Minister, on behalf of the Ministry, thanked the World Health Organization for recognizing Georgia's progress in the direction of viral hepatitis elimination.
"It is a great honor for us that the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia was chosen as a WHO Collaborating Center for the Elimination of Viral Hepatitis to support the member states in the development, review and monitoring of national action plans for the elimination of hepatitis. We hope to be a close partner in the process of eliminating viral hepatitis, both in the European region and globally," - said Zurab Azarashvili.
The Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili noted that due to the full financial coverage of screening, testing and treatment, Georgia has made significant progress in the fight against hepatitis C.
Zurab Azarashvili is paying an official visit to Tel Aviv, where he is participating in the 72nd session of the World Health Organization together with the First Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia.
