
“The first day of the conference was devoted to the discussion of the results of the researches carried out in the fields of archaeology, molecular biology, denomy, agroclimatology, winemaking and viticulture of the Georgian Vine and Wine Culture Research and Promotion Project,’’ - is the National Wine Agency of Georgia reported.
"The participants discussed the importance of the studies carried out by various researchers and institutes worldwide, including the significance of the results of the archaeological excavations of the Gadachrili Gora and the Shulaveri Gora. These studies explain the stages of transition from wild vines to cultivated vines and domestication of vines through biological studies. Th studies also include a global perspective on the place and the role of Georgian grapes and wine in the world.
The participants of the conference also discussed the positive properties of the Georgian vines against various phytoplasmal diseases, which is very important for the development of the field of winemaking and viticulture and the issue of using yeasts as biocontrol agents, which is one of the new directions in winemaking.
The conference is organized by the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and is supported by the Government of Georgia. It is being attended by 22 scientists, researchers and experts from 11 countries (Georgia, Italy, France, Spain, England, the USA, Canada, Israel, Brazil, South Africa, Croatia)", - the statement says.
