"The launch of Anaklia Port will double the container transit and processing capacity of Georgian ports. The next stages of its development will involve not only container services but also dry and bulk cargo operations," said Guram Guramishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
According to the Ministry of Economy, preparatory work is actively underway for dredging the water area at Anaklia Deep Sea Port, along with the design and construction of a breakwater. The first phase of the port will have a throughput capacity of 600,000 containers per year, with an estimated cost of $600 million. Plans also include creating a free industrial zone and developing a logistics zone for industrial production near the port, which will generate additional jobs and attract investments.
As Guramishvili emphasized, Anaklia Port holds significant importance for Georgia. Its launch is being eagerly anticipated not only by Central Asia, but also by European countries and major cargo-producing nations, such as China. He added that once operational, the middle corridor running through Georgia will become much more competitive, significantly enhancing Georgia’s position in the global supply chain.
Additionally, Guramishvili highlighted the importance of Georgia’s role as the decision-maker in the Anaklia project, ensuring the country can confidently pursue its transport policy.
