Following the ICSID tribunal's July 30 ruling against Dutch investor Bob Meijer in the Anaklia Port dispute, both Meijer and the Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) issued statements expressing disappointment. Meijer had sought compensation under the Georgia–Netherlands investment treaty after the Georgian government terminated its agreement with ADC in 2020.
While the tribunal rejected Meijer’s $64 million claim, details of the ruling remain confidential. Georgia's Ministry of Justice stated that Meijer was instead ordered to pay $6.5 million to the Georgian government.
Meijer emphasized his continued belief in the port's potential and blamed the Georgian government for failing to support its development. ADC echoed this sentiment, accusing the government of making empty promises since ending the project partnership and missing the opportunity to turn Anaklia into a major economic hub.
ADC also recalled its separate $1.5 billion arbitration case, dismissed by the ICC in 2024, marking a second legal defeat over the Anaklia project.
