
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses its condolences on the death of pianist Alexander (Lexo) Toradze.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses its deep sorrow over the death of one of the most virtuoso pianists of modern times, Alexander (Lexo) Toradze, and extends its sincere condolences to his family and relatives.
Throughout his brilliant career, Lexo Toradze has repeatedly fascinated international listeners by his characteristic performing arts and has made a name for our country.
In addition to performing, Lexo Toradze was teaching as a professor of piano at Indiana University South Bend, in the United States, between 1991-2017; he founded the piano studio - Toradze Piano Studio - there, which gained wide recognition as a music-educational center.
Lexo Toradze paid special attention to the talented young people of Georgia, so that they could fully master their performing skills and, in addition to their career advancement, popularize Georgia and Georgian culture.
In 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia awarded Lexo Toradze for his contribution to the popularization of Georgian culture.
"The death of Lexo Toradze is a great tragedy and a loss for the world music community and his homeland, which will never forget his merits and work," - the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
