"As of March, the foreign trade exceeds expectations," - Eva Bochorishvili, the Head of Galt & Taggart's Research Department, told Business Morning.
"Against the backdrop of the war, which is ongoing in our two major trading partners and the anticipation of that impact, the March export growth rate has reduced compared to the previous month; we observed a 60% increase in the volume of exports in February, but against the background of the war, the 26% increase in March is really impressive," Eva Bochorishvili said.
According to her, Georgia mainly carries out the export of goods, for which prices have risen in the world market. This is one of the factors determining the growth rate of our exports in contrast to the imports, which slowed down significantly in March.
“The significant slowdown in the import growth is linked to supply chain problems stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war. For example, Georgia used to receive cigarettes mainly from Ukraine, and now the markets are slowly being diversified. Therefore, I think this slowdown in the imports is temporary," - Bochorishvili said.
