
In 2022, the volume of wheat imported into Georgia decreased by 50%, which is partly related not to the decrease in bread consumption, but due to the fact that during certain months the import of flour into the country increased and it was no longer worth it for Georgian mills to import wheat and further process it.
According to the data published by the Georgian National Statistics Service (GeoStat), 184,063.59 tons of wheat were imported into Georgia in 2022, and 366,909.40 tons in 2021. According to the current indicators, the total value of imported wheat into Georgia in 2022 was $64,785.43 thousand, and the price of imported wheat in 2021 was $93,448.33 thousand.
According to the data published by the Georgian National Statistics Service (GeoStat), in 2022, 174,132.86 tons of wheat were imported from Russia, and 3,703.00 tons from Kazakhstan. In 2022, wheat was also imported from Armenia (3,569.33 tons), Ukraine (2,500.00 tons), Australia (66.28 tons), Turkey (53.50 tons), Germany (38.47 tons) and France (0.15 tons).
98% of imported flour in Georgia is of Russian production. In 2022, 179,743.24 tons of flour were imported into Georgia from Russia.
