"In September 2022, compared to the same period last year, a 10-15% decrease in the export of fruits and vegetables is expected," - Vakhtang Bezhitashvili, chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association of Georgia, said.
He explains the decline in exports is associated with geopolitical instability and that it is necessary to redirect the export of fruits and vegetables from the Russian direction to more stable and promising markets.
According to Vakhtang Bezhitashvili, the decrease in exports is connected with the current and expected instability due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“90% of Georgia’s exports are focused on Russia and this brings considerable risks. We definitely need to diversify the markets so that our exports are not directed only to Russia. We have the potential in European countries. In this direction, the private sector should work together with the government," - Bezhitashvili said.
