Sophie Merceron has been a theater actress in Paris and Nantes for many years, and in 2006-2009 she founded and directed the literary creative space, L'Ogre à Plumes. She writes plays for theatrical productions.
Her debut work, April (Avril, published by L'Ecole Des Loisirs), has won numerous major children's literary awards.
Within her residency, several meetings and events are planned. Organized by the French Institute, an online meeting with French-speaking readers is scheduled. At the same time, the author will dedicate a large part of the residency to work on new production.
In response, a Georgian writer, Irma Tavelidze, will leave for the city of Nantes, who, during April, will live and work at a local residence.
"Tbilisi - World Book Capital" and the Writers' House of Georgia have been implementing the international residency program since last autumn. Writers Tako Poladashvili and Tea Topuria participated in La Coruña’s Residency Programme, while Zaza Koshkadze took part in Lviv's Residency Programme. The Writers House's Residency Programme also included Ukrainian and Spanish writers. The Residency Programme for International Authors will further continue. Residencies in Ireland and Mexico are planned at this stage.
"Tbilisi - World Book Capital" is a UNESCO project, which is being implemented with the financial support of the Tbilisi City Hall. The general sponsor of the project is the Bank of Georgia.
