
As of January-July 2022, 7,135 tons of packaged medicinal products worth of $234 million were imported into Georgia.
In the same period last year, $ 203.7 million was spent from Georgia to purchase medicines and 5,362 tons of goods entered the country. Accordingly, in the current year, the value of the imports increased by 14.9%, and the volume of the purchased goods - by 33%.
As for the countries, as in January-July of last years, Georgia’s main import trading partner was Turkey, and the value of the import of medicines from this direction increased by 36.5%, and the volume by -98.8%, which is almost doubled. Therefore, we can say that after the opening of the Turkish market, a larger volume of medicines was imported into Georgia from the neighboring country.
The statistics of the import of medicines from Turkey into Georgia for five years in January-July are as follows:
1. 2022 - $37.7 million, 538 tons;
2. 2021 - $27.6 million, 270 tons;
3. 2020 - $28.2 million, 334 tons;
4. 2019 - $53 million, 454 tons;
5. 2018 - $34 million, 254 tons;
The TOP-10 import markets for Georgia in the first 7 months of this year are as follows:
1. Turkey - $37.7 million, 538 tons;
2. Germany - $23.8 million, 497 tons;
3. Switzerland - $22.3 million, 46 tons;
4. France - $19.5 million, 92 tons;
5. Hungary - $16.3 million, 149 tons;
6. India - $12.3 million, 321 tons;
7. Russia - $9.5 million, 352 tons;
8. Ukraine - $8.9 million, 371 tons;
9. Slovenia - $8.7 million, 120 tons;
10. Italy - $6.2 million, 150 tons.
In addition, packaged medicines from Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Argentina, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Belarus, Armenia, China, Austria, the USA and Uzbekistan were imported to Georgia. The value of medicines imported from these countries exceeded $1 million. Medicines packaged in small volumes were imported from other countries as well.
