
Banana consumption in Georgia increased by 12.45%. According to the data published on the GEOSTAT website (the National Statistics Office of Georgia), in January-May 2022, 16,339.78 tons of bananas (fresh or dried) were imported into Georgia, while in the same period of 2021, 14,530.44 tons. The total value of the bananas imported in the five months of 2022 was 12,416.97 million dollars, and in the five months of 2021 - it was 9,617.88 million dollars.
The main importing country of bananas for Georgia is Ecuador, from which Georgia imported most of the bananas it consumed in five months, 15,433.90 tons, the value of which amounted to 11,761.14 million dollars.
Among Georgia’s TOP-3 trading partner countries for imports, Turkey ranks second, from which the country bought 692.74 tons of bananas. The third place is given to Costa Rica, from which 139.39 tons of bananas came to Georgia.
