Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, called the allegations about the reliability of tourism statistics false and incompetent.
"We are being accused of including migrants in tourism statistics. This is a lie and incompetence. Georgia, like all other developed countries, calculates tourism statistics based on the methodology of the United Nations World Tourism Organization - only visitors who leave the country are counted. Thus, when we say that we hosted more than 2.9 million travelers, this statistic is based on the departure of 2.9 million people from the country," said Mariam Kvrivishvili.
“The methodology of the World Tourism Organization includes only completed visits. Thus, there is no resource and space for additional assessments in tourism statistics," Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
