Russia may temporarily stop the export of wheat and oil into Georgia. Producers have already applied to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia with this recommendation. They cite the cheapening of products in the world markets as the main argument.
It should be noted that Russia is Georgia's top trading partner by imports of wheat and sunflower oil. In two months of 2023, 94% of oil imports and 97% of wheat imports came from Russia.
Particularly, according to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), in January-February 2023, a total of 32,975 tons of wheat (worth $10,428 million) entered Georgia, of which Russia's share was 32,014 tons ($10,119 million). The country bought 961 tons of wheat ($309.8 thousand) from Ukraine.
As for sunflower oil, this year Georgia imported 3,353 tons of products (worth $4,489 million), of which 3,151 tons ($4,164 million) came from Russia, 118.9 tons ($187,500) from Ukraine, and 51 tons of oil (worth $74.7 thousand) - from Belarus.
