“I will be the curator of the field of energy. When personally, in this case, the country's First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development leads the sector, this is also a demonstration that the energy sector is a high priority to us,” - said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili said at a briefing held in the government administration.
As the First Vice Prime Minister declared, the stated policy of the Government of Georgia is to prioritize the energy sector and maximize the development of energy potential.
"In this case, our Ministry will be responsible for this. We will continue working to achieve the goal of making the country energy-independent and a net-exporter, and the important changes that have started in recent years will not slow down, but will continue with even more efforts and achieve the goals we have set," - Levan Davitashvili said.
Regarding the need for a separate agency, if the sector is managed correctly, it is impossible to achieve more results for energy when it is part of a very powerful Ministry. This simplifies coordination with different agencies. The development of this or that sector needs coordination with many adjacent areas, be it issues of disposal of state property, etc., all this needs to be in a strong portfolio.
Our decision is unequivocal that we will pay even more attention to energy. Consolidated Ministries like the Ministry of Economy, as a rule, allow for more resources, more coordination for this or that field, and all this is the basis of flexibility to develop the field more successfully," - the First Vice Prime Minister said.
