,,Georgia endured a challenging period following the onset of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, with the country frequently at the center of international discourse,'' - stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili.
According to Bochorishvili, at the time, Georgia's prominence in statements and demands was difficult to explain. The opposition attributed this to the government's alleged inadequate support for Ukraine, overshadowing Georgia's actual steps and actions. She asserted that coordinated pressure from non-governmental organizations, the opposition, and their supporters aimed to involve Georgia in hostilities by demanding sanctions against Russia and direct assistance to Ukraine.
Bochorishvili recalled that during her visit to Strasbourg, European politicians exhibited aggressive rhetoric, dismissing explanations of Georgia's cautious stance, which aimed to prevent existential security threats. She emphasized that while international officials change over time, the responsibility for protecting Georgia's security ultimately lies with the Georgian government.
