“It is true that we should prepare for a choice that will be equivalent to a referendum - Europe or Russia,” - President Salome Zurabishvili stated this at the briefing, where she signed the decree by which the parliamentary elections were scheduled for October 26.
According to her, the day of decision is approaching, "the day of choice, the day of salvation". Today, we are not dealing with ordinary elections, when the citizen chooses, which political force is closest to his worldview, but we are dealing with saving the future of the country. Our choice is existential. This choice will determine the fate of the country for many years, therefore, as the president, regarding these elections I have something to say. If this was an ordinary election, a competition between different political forces, I would have nothing to say. They want to convince us that it will be a choice between war and peace. This is a lie, because the threat of war cannot be prevented by elections, and no one ever chooses war. Today, nobody wants and nobody is preparing for war in Georgia. Isolation, internal strife, blurring and confusion of priorities and goals increase the appetite of the enemy or the threat of war. Instead, courage, unity, clarity with lover or foe, the best defense is the security of the country.
Instead, it is right that we should prepare for a choice that will be equivalent to a referendum - Europe or Russia. We have to decide the main thing - who we are, what we are, where we are going and what we want. Past or progress, freedom or slavery, dictatorship or democracy, one-party power or multi-party government," - Salome Zurabishvili stated.
