“We have unprecedented economic growth. We have just been to Bratislava and our European colleagues were surprised to hear my and Levan Davitashvili’s speeches," - the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said at the governmental meeting.
According to him, "very few countries have such economic growth."
"We closed the first quarter with 14% economic growth and in 4 months we achieved 10.8% economic growth, which is very gratifying. There is a positive dynamic in the country. In April last year we had almost 45% economic growth. We did not expect growth in April, but we still have positive dynamics and in total we achieved 10.8% economic growth in 4 months. Flights have been fully restored, tourism is being restored very quickly," - Gharibashvili said.
He also noted that business turnover has increased compared to the previous year, as well as the entire business sector, and it amounted to 38.6 billion GEL. The number of jobs has also increased by 8.2% in the business sector and it amounted to about 50 000. The average wage has increased by 15%.
The head of government stressed that Georgia should calmly wait for the EU decision, “because whatever it is, it will be fair.”
“I will also tell you that the poverty level is below the historical minimum - 17.5%. There has been no such reduction in recent years. For comparison, I would say that the poverty rate in 2010 was 38%, while in 2012, when we came to power, it was 34%. It is not enough, we need to work harder, but it requires peace, stability and development and we are doing all this.
In Turkey, for example, inflation was 73%. In Europe it is at its peak - almost everywhere it is at its historical maximum, including in Germany, France. In Moldova it is 27%, in Estonia 18%, in Russia 17%, in Belarus 16%, 12.8% in Azerbaijan and up to 9% in Armenia," - Irakli Gharibashvili stated.
