"We had an 80% dependence on wine exports to the Russian market, and this figure has dropped to 57%," – the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia said at a briefing after the government session.
He said that “this is a merit of the policies and measures that the state is implementing together with our entrepreneurs”.
"In order to diversify the wine market over the years, we have been implementing a relevant project with the involvement of the National Wine Agency of Georgia and about 10-12 million GEL is spent annually in this direction. We fund various events in the form of tastings and exhibitions in many countries around the world.
In addition to the fact that last year, at the end of the year, we developed a project to finance the marketing costs for our entrepreneurs, this is an additional offer for them to cover the marketing costs for wine promotion in specific countries and we will fund their marketing costs if they meet the conditions specified in the decree. Therefore, this is another support for our entrepreneurs to be able to enter various markets and diversify more," - said Shamugia.
