This year, due to bad weather in Georgia, the process of harvesting asparagus was delayed by 2-3 weeks.
If the crop was to be harvested by farmers in early March, the new crops have not yet grown and farmers are selling the asparagus produced in the greenhouses, the price of which, per kg often reaches GEL 40-45 due to shortage and high demand.
Tina Tsamalaidze, co-founder of "Georgian Asparagus", told BMG that due to bad weather, she expects to get the final harvest this year by the end of June or late July, instead of the beginning of June, while the company will start selling the asparagus in about a week. Tsamalaidze suggests increasing the price of 1 kg of asparagus by GEL 5-10 per season against the background of high fuel prices and high inflation.
"According to the preliminary forecast, we expect the price to increase by GEL 5-10. We will sell 1 kg of the asparagus for GEL 25-30 instead of GEL 20, but then the price will decrease slightly. Finally, after the crop is fully harvested, the price will rise again in June-July and the cost of 1 kg will be about GEL 30," - noted the co-founder of "Georgian Asparagus".
