Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Siarto and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili held a joint press conference.
In his speech, Siarto said, “We don’t veto at European Council meetings just to veto, we don’t do this as a charade, not because the veto itself feels good, but we always cast votes that correspond to the representation of national interests.”
“I just want to say that we always vote for and represent a position in the European Council that corresponds to the national interest.
The fact that a country is threatened with the removal of voting rights because of its representation of national interests means that the interpretation of democracy and the rule of law in Brussels is quite a questionable story. As for Ukraine’s accession, if they push through Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, they will practically destroy European security and European economic competitiveness.
Because pushing a country at war into the European Union destroys the European economy, and pushing a country with the current level of development like Ukraine into the European Union destroys European competitiveness, destroys the European economy, European agriculture, destroys competitiveness, the pension system, the healthcare situation, and so on and so forth.
Today, Ukraine’s accession to the European Union carries enormous risks, which is why it is important for Hungarian people to express their opinion on how they see this issue in the upcoming opinion-expressing vote,” Siarto noted.
