We continue to attract investments in the energy sector to develop economically attractive and environmentally friendly renewable energy projects – Georgian Deputy Economy Minister

“The construction of a hybrid power plant is preferable, because renewable energies will be added to the country and this is our strategic direction, and, on the other hand, it promotes the power plants of this type, which are very common in Europe," - Romeo Mikautadze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, said after signing the Letter of Cooperation between the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Georgian Renewable Power Company (GRPC). Consequently, a 5 MW solar plant will be built near the 21 MW wind power plant owned by the Georgian Renewable Power Company in Gori and will supplement the electricity generation during low wind speed periods.

The USAID will provide technical and consulting assistance to the Georgian Renewable Power Company for the development of the pilot project. In addition, both parties will support the development of potential projects that will attract investments in Georgia's renewable energy by increasing the involvement of the private sector.

The Deputy Minister stated the Georgian government would continue to attract investments in the energy sector in order to develop economically attractive and ecologically clean, renewable energy projects.
