The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has stated that they are actively working on the issue of opening the land border with Azerbaijan. In particular, as a result of the efforts of the Embassy of Georgia, the flights to Baku from Tbilisi have been resumed since March 19 last year, and from June 1, the flights to Baku from Batumi will be restored.
"It should be noted that the issue of opening the land border between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan has been repeatedly discussed during bilateral official meetings between the parties.
We would like to inform you that for the free movement of passengers, the land border with Azerbaijan is still closed with all the bordering countries - Georgia, Iran and the Russian Federation. At this point, the country's leadership has not made a decision to open its land borders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Georgia in Azerbaijan are actively working to alleviate possible restrictions imposed on the Azerbaijani side, however, due to the current situation, there are still some regulations that remain in force.
Through active communication, the regulations imposed by the Azerbaijani side have already been lifted for the passengers traveling by air from Georgia. As for the passengers traveling by land, the negotiations are underway to alleviate these regulations for them as well," - the Ministry reported.
