Merab Dvalishvili successfully defended his UFC super lightweight title at UFC 316, defeating American contender Sean O’Malley in New Jersey. This marks Dvalishvili’s second victory over O’Malley, having first claimed the championship against him in September of last year.
The event was attended by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who congratulated the Georgian fighter following his win. Dvalishvili approached Trump after the bout to shake hands and pose for a photo.
This win is Dvalishvili’s second successful title defense, his first coming in January against Umar Nurmagomedov. With a professional MMA record now standing at 20 wins and 4 losses, he has extended his unbeaten streak to 13 consecutive victories—placing him in elite company alongside legends such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Georges St-Pierre, and Jon Jones.
Dvalishvili has not lost a fight since 2018 and has beaten four former UFC champions during his dominant run.
