The Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili emphasized the significance of the country's partnership with the United States, stressing that this collaboration must be meaningful and not subject to speculation or manipulation. Botchorishvili stated that strategic partnerships "must be substantive."
She explained that discussions of strategic partnerships should focus on their tangible substance, and when considering the suspension of such ties, it is crucial to understand the specific nature of what is being suspended. This remark was in response to the Biden administration's decision to suspend the strategic partnership mechanism with Georgia.
Botchorishvili underscored the importance and value of Georgia’s relationship with the United States, describing it as a strategic partnership. However, she reiterated that the partnership should be meaningful and not manipulated for other purposes. She emphasized that a true strategic partnership should focus on enhancing relations across various sectors, including free trade, visa-free travel, and direct flights.
The Foreign Minister also expressed hope that there would be an opportunity to reassess the current state of relations between the two countries in the near future.
