As the head of the Transport and Urban Development Agency of Tbilisi City Hall Victor Tsilosani told reporters, according to today's data, one-month, three-month, six-month and one-year season tickets make 75% of sold cards.
"From February 1, a new system of payment for public transport will be introduced in the capital, therefore, citizens will be able to buy season tickets. 1-month card - 40 GEL, 3-month - 100 GEL, 6-month - 150 GEL, and 1-year cards - 250 GEL. According to today’s data, one-month, three-month, six-month and one-year season tickets make 75% of sold cards. We think we will have a real sales figure around mid-March. For this period, it will be realistic to discuss how much the population has switched to and adapted to this card. As for the existing cards (Metroman), it remains valid in case of a one-time payment and the existing balance will be maintained for the citizens.
Also, in case of one-time payment, citizens will be able to use bank cards. In addition, all discount cards remain valid and the 16 groups of people who enjoyed the benefits will be retained.
55% of the transportation is made with these preferential benefits. Nothing changes for the mentioned persons, it is not obligatory for them to get a new card. We have repeatedly mentioned that the average number of trips per citizen is two and a half per day, since people use public transport for other purposes besides home-work. Therefore, if we calculate the tariff, the average weighted tariff is about 60 tetri, hence the monthly cost per person is 45 GEL. That is why we decided that we did not want it to be a burden for the citizens, so the cost of a one-month travel is 40 GEL. For 90% of the citizens, the cost of travel remained the same or improved in case of purchasing a season ticket," said Tsilosani.
As for the change of route lines, as Tsilosani explains, part of the population will have to switch from minibus to metro or bus, however, according to him, the waiting time for public transport has been reduced and this will not be a problem for the population.
To be informed, starting tomorrow, a 90-minute public transport ticket will cost 1 GEL, a 1-day card - 3 GEL, a 1-week - 20 GEL, a 1-month - 40 GEL, a 3-month - 100 GEL, a 6-month - 150 GEL; and 1-year cards will cost 250 GEL. Citizens will be able to use the tickets while traveling by metro, bus, cable car and blue minibus.
According to the City Hall, the Metromans are not canceled and still remain a means of one-time payment of travel fees, in parallel with passenger season tickets.
