Ukrainian farm Nuts'N'Garden, which grows organic nuts, has tested drying and then storing them for the first time this year.
Nina Smirnova, the founder of the farm, spoke about this in an interview with the Gardening in Ukrainian magazine:
,,A nut drying is only the first stage of processing, and now there is a shortage of nuts in Ukraine. Without this, it is impossible to enter the Ukrainian or foreign market and create a value-added product. It is very difficult and economically unprofitable for small farmers to install processing equipment, so they need to unite, and processing should be local.
There should be factories in all regions, as well as in Georgia, where state and international support programs have been operating for a long time and seven regional storage enterprises were created with the funds of USAID; farmers have the opportunity to process crops to different degrees. This scheme has also worked well in Italy for decades. Ukraine is also moving in this direction," - said Smirnova.
