The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has strongly condemned the use of Russia-Ukraine war footage in a political video shared by Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, on its official Facebook page. In a sharply worded statement, Ukraine described the move as “cynical” and disrespectful to the Ukrainian people and the victims of Russian aggression.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has taken note of yet another unfriendly act by the ruling Georgian Dream party, which continues to exploit videos showing the devastating consequences of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine for political PR purposes,” the statement reads.
Such actions, the ministry emphasized, not only show a blatant disregard for human suffering, but also provoke justified outrage within Ukrainian society.
“It is deeply regrettable that the Georgian government appears to be attempting to appease Moscow while ignoring the historic principles of dignity and independence that have long defined the Georgian nation and its identity,” the statement continued.
In a pointed critique, Ukraine’s foreign ministry urged Georgian Dream’s political strategists to present a more honest reflection of current realities.
“They should post an image with Russia’s tricolor flag on the right, and the closed doors of the European Union and NATO on the left. That would accurately depict how the current Georgian government has not spared the country from war, but rather, deprived it of a European future.”
Despite the diplomatic rift, Ukraine reaffirmed its support for the Georgian people.
“Ukraine continues to firmly and consistently support the friendly Georgian people in their aspirations to build an independent, democratic, and European state.”
The statement was published on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia, underscoring the seriousness with which Kyiv views the matter.
